doggy seat belt

I was coming to school this morning. There was a pick-up truck in front of me, and there was this big dark brown dog. It was a beautiful dog, which was just walking around on the back of the pick-up with no harness around him. The worse thing was that the back of the pick-up was down, and the dog could just slide down and fall off the truck. I was wondering if the owner ever worry about that. Maybe the dog is a super dog that knows how to control its balance even in the case of accident.
I worry about the dog this much, and I'm sure you can guess how much I'm against children in a car with no proper car seat for them. I know they may not like to be seated in the car seat, but it's for their safety. They have to know that they have to be seated in the car seat.

I grew up in a small town, and there were always dogs in the backs of pickups riding around town. You make a good point as to the safety of the dog; I'm sure if the truck was in a wreck, the dog wouldn't be very well off. However, tying the dog in the back of the truck could be worse. I can't remember where I heard this, but I did hear of someone who had their dog tied in the back, and the dog either jumped over the side or was thrown over the side, and the dog ended up hanging himself. So, maybe they're better off left untethered if they're going to be in a truck bed.

That's awful. They can do some studpid stuff. What do they know? They are dogs... One time when I was on I-44 I think, I was stuck in the traffic jam. Usually I-44 near Newcastle is not crowded at all. It was because a dog that was on a back of a pick up jumped or fell off got killed by the car behind. I saw the owner standing by the bloddy mess, and he was so embarrassed and sad.. It's better to leave em home, I guess.

I am always amazed that dogs stay in the back of trucks when they are driving down the road. I guess they don’t always stay as the previous post indicates. I also am very against not restraining children. What are parents thinking? Do they honestly not care about their babies enough to put them in car seats? Is laziness the excuse they use? I don’t know. But one day I caught someone at a gas station holding a 3-month-old and I looked and there was no car seat. Luckily I saw a police officer and I told him. I don’t know what happened but I think its obvious that this is a form of neglect.

Good for you, David. I think they get a ticket for not restraining children now. Believe it or not, there's a program that give out free car seats to people by EMSA here in Oklahoma city. So, yes, there is no excuse for not using car seats for children.
